The Traitors star Charlotte Chilton has been rushed to hospital for emergency surgery after suffering a 'terrible attack' of trigeminal neuralgia. The 32-year-old, who appeared in series two of the BBC programme, shared an update on Instagram on Sunday (December 14) showing herself in a hospital gown.
Charlotte described the condition as 'physical torture' and explained that she needed another neurosurgery to control the pain. 'Having surgery on your brain is always daunting, however this has long term relief and allows me to get on with my life,' she wrote.
Trigeminal neuralgia causes sudden, intense facial pain, often described as a sharp shooting sensation or electric shock in the jaw, teeth or gums. The NHS website notes that it is sometimes called 'the suicide disease' due to the severity of the pain.
Charlotte thanked the neuro team at QE Hospital and her family and friends for their support. The civilian version of The Traitors is set to return on New Year's Day at 8pm on BBC One.
