Spain's World Cup hero Ferran Torres reportedly broke up with his girlfriend days before scoring the winner in the final against Argentina. The 26-year-old Barcelona forward scored in extra-time of Sunday's showpiece to dethrone Lionel Messi and secure Spain's second World Cup title, but he was reportedly still reeling from a heartbreak.
Split Before Quarter-Final
According to Spanish journalist Javi de Hoyos, via Bild, Torres split with influencer girlfriend Martina Hunter prior to Spain's 2-1 win over Belgium in the quarter-finals on July 10. De Hoyos stated: 'I have spoken with people close to both of them, and they confirm that the romance is over, at least for now. Ferran is currently enjoying being single at the World Cup.'
The report claims that Torres and Hunter were regularly spotted partying together in Ibiza. However, the pair have now unfollowed each other on Instagram. Hunter, who has almost 60,000 followers, posted a holiday photo in Bali with friends. She has never publicly admitted a relationship with the ex-Manchester City star, who previously dated Sira Martinez, daughter of Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique.
Enrique's Joke About Relationship
Torres played under Enrique during his second spell as Spain boss from 2019 to 2022. In 2022, Enrique joked he would substitute Torres if he ever celebrated a goal with a baby gesture, referencing the relationship. The former Barcelona boss said: 'I would replace him in that moment, put him on the stands, and he wouldn't set foot on a football pitch again.'
Torres on Winning Goal
After scoring the winner against Argentina, Torres said: 'I think in the end the goal came from 47 million people [approximately the population of Spain], not just those of us that are here. Today destiny was written, it was made for us to win. We're far from our people today but we tried to be as close as possible to them.' He added: 'Finals are hard. When you have [Lionel] Messi on the opposing team you do get worried, but we always backed ourselves and tried to show our football and I think we managed to do it once again.'
