Holland made his acting debut in the West End in London after being spotted at the 2006 Richmond Dance Festival. Choreographer Lynne Page arranged for him to audition for Billy Elliot the Musical, where director Stephen Daldry thought he “had great potential and was a very natural actor”. After two years of training, he debuted as Michael Caffrey in June 2008 and later took on the role of Billy.
In 2012, he played a lead role in The Impossible, which propelled him into the public eye. He first appeared as Spider-Man in 2016's Captain America: Civil War, becoming the youngest actor to take the title role in a Marvel film with Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017.
