Viewers of the Paris Olympics opening ceremony were left baffled after a performer appeared to have suffered a wardrobe malfunction, with what looked like a testicle visible on screen. The incident occurred during a segment featuring French singer Philippe Katerine, who was painted blue and portrayed the Greek god Dionysus.
However, it has since been confirmed that the apparent exposure was actually a hole in the performer’s black tights. Initially testicle-shaped, the tear grew larger as the performer moved, revealing the fabric split across the thigh. The mishap lasted nearly 30 seconds before being obscured by props.
The ceremony also saw other errors, including the Olympic flag being raised upside down due to the rain. Additionally, the South Korean team was mistakenly introduced as ‘the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’, the official name of North Korea, prompting an apology from the International Olympic Committee.
South Korea’s sports ministry has said it will lodge a formal complaint with France over the error. IOC President Thomas Bach has also planned to meet with South Korean leader Yoon Suk-yeol to address the mistake.
