Jessica Simpson has opened up about the heartbreak she experienced in her twenties when her record label dropped her in 2008, despite her country album 'Do You Know' reaching number one on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart.
During an interview with Fancy Hagood for an upcoming episode of Trailblazers Radio, the 44-year-old singer said she took a long break from music because she was 'mad at music a bit' after being dropped. She never understood why the label let her go, especially as her brand was already successful.
Simpson revealed that the label told her she would never recoup if she did not give them part of her brand. She also said she was warned not to pursue music as it would ruin her career, similar to warnings about reality TV, but neither proved true.
The 'I Belong To Me' singer explained that she needed to get her mindset right before returning to the music industry. She wanted to be a good role model to her three children, who had thought she was releasing music all along because of writing sessions at home.
Simpson made a comeback in March 2025 with her EP 'Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1', recorded in Nashville after her eldest daughter, Maxwell, wanted to celebrate her birthday there.
