Tom Cruise Unrecognisable with Beer Belly and Grey Hair

Tom Cruise is virtually unrecognisable in the trailer for his latest film Digger, where he sports receding grey hair, a beer belly, and a pronounced southern drawl. The 64-year-old actor's dramatic makeover has been hailed as his most epic transformation since he donned a fat suit and prosthetics for 2008's Tropic Thunder.

Physical Transformation Details

In Digger, Cruise wears a hairpiece that transforms his typically thick dark locks into a sparse grey comb-over, with padding on his body to create a pot belly. He has also adopted a southern accent to completely morph into quirky oil tycoon Digger Rockwell. Fans were quick to comment on how dramatically different Cruise looks, with one person dubbing it his "biggest physical transformation". Another said the film had "that Tropic Thunder vibe", while a third was amazed by the preview, declaring: "He'll probably get an Oscar this time," reports the Mirror. A fourth commented: "Seeing an old Tom Cruise is wild."

Cruise's Youthful Appearance

Despite Cruise being 64 years old, he has kept a very youthful appearance over the years, most noticeably in blockbusters Top Gun: Maverick and the Mission: Impossible series. Cruise has previously credited his appearance to a strict regime of healthy eating and fitness.

Plot of 'Digger'

Digger is set to hit cinemas in October this year and centres around Rockwell, known as the "most powerful man in the world", who embarks on a mission to save the planet from an ecological disaster despite his own oil rigs having contributed to the looming climate catastrophe. Rockwell discovers that his company may have sparked an ecological disaster in Greenland that could escalate into nuclear war.

Cruise's Comments on the Role

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Cruise said: "I have never had something that could challenge me in this way and neither had Alejandro when we went in, ever. When you see this film, it's totally original."
