Tom Cruise and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are set to reunite for a sequel to the 1990 NASCAR film Days of Thunder, following their billion-dollar success with Top Gun: Maverick, which arrived in cinemas almost 40 years after the original.
Sequel Details
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jonathan Levine (Long Shot, Mr. Irrelevant) is in talks to direct the sequel to the Tony Scott original, while Will Staples (Call of Duty 3, Without Remorse) is writing the screenplay. Cruise is set to reprise his role as car driver Cole Trickle in what is expected to be the Hollywood star's next movie.
Original Cast and Legacy
Nicole Kidman co-starred in the original as the love interest, Dr. Claire Lewicki. She famously met Cruise on set and was married to him for a decade before they divorced. No word yet on whether Kidman will return for the sequel.
The Top Gun: Maverick team—including director, producer, and writer—repeated their success with Brad Pitt in F1 the Movie, paving the way for this new collaboration between Cruise and Bruckheimer on the NASCAR flick.
