Welsh influencer Tom Christopher's appearance on Good Morning Britain descended into chaos as he discussed the fallout from his Pen y Fan bathtub stunt. The 25-year-old content creator sparked outrage after carrying a bath to the summit of Wales' highest peak and leaving it there.
Topless on Breakfast TV
Before the interview began, Kate Garraway asked: "Why are you basically naked on breakfast television? Why are you topless, Tom?" Christopher replied: "I just don't like wearing clothes. I like just being free." Garraway later told him: "Put some clothes on, first of all." Richard Madeley joked that viewers might think he "couldn't afford a T-shirt" because of his fine.
The Stunt
Christopher carried a 40kg plastic bathtub up Pen y Fan (886m) to claim the world record for the highest bath. The ascent took three hours, and the full challenge, including transporting water, lasted seven hours. He left signs asking walkers to bring water. "People were helping out," he said. He intended to leave the bath for 48 hours so others could take photos, but Cardiff Rugby academy players, volunteering with National Trust rangers, removed it. Christopher said he only discovered the bath was gone after phoning the National Park.
Fines and Death Threats
Christopher faces a £400 disposal fee and a potential fly-tipping fine of up to £5,000. He revealed he has received death threats: "Someone said they're going to drown me if I ever have a bath again." Despite this, he admitted: "Looking back, I did the wrong thing and I'm the villain of the story. But the message is: don't fly-tip."
Surprising Details
Christopher offered to do litter picking instead of paying fines, and claimed he found "a meal in the bushes" while doing so. He also explained he lost a fingertip: "A squirrel took it." When Madeley asked what he does for a living, Christopher replied: "I used to be a builder, but now I'm a professional bath putter-upper." He said his record would be "the highest bath put on a mountain peak by someone with nine fingers."
Changing Opinions
Madeley admitted: "I thought you were a bit of an idiot... But now you've explained the situation, my instinct is we should show leniency." Garraway agreed, calling him "crackers" but acknowledging he didn't mean to cause a problem. At the end, Christopher gave a shout-out to David Attenborough: "I love you. I hope you're watching."
