Larry David Leads Tributes to Richard Lewis After Comedian's Death at 76

Larry David has paid tribute to his Curb Your Enthusiasm co-star Richard Lewis, who died on Wednesday at the age of 76 following a battle with Parkinson's disease. David, also 76, described Lewis as 'like a brother' in a statement released by HBO.

'Richard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital and for most of my life he's been like a brother to me,' David said. 'He had that rare combination of being the funniest person and also the sweetest. But today he made me sob and for that I'll never forgive him.'

Lewis appeared in 41 episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm, including the 2000 special that launched the series. He played a fictionalised version of himself, often clashing with David's character. Lewis publicly revealed his Parkinson's diagnosis in April 2023, having been diagnosed three-and-a-half years earlier.

Cheryl Hines, who played David's wife on the show, also paid tribute, saying Lewis was 'one of the most loving people I know'. She added: 'To be loved by Richard Lewis. A true gift.'

Other celebrities including Steve Martin, Jimmy Kimmel, and Jamie Lee Curtis shared their condolences. Curtis, who co-starred with Lewis on Anything But Love, credited him with helping her get sober, writing: 'He helped me. I am forever grateful for him for that act of grace alone.'
