Coronation Street star Tina O'Brien has sparked speculation about her future on the soap after Sarah Platt was revealed as Theo Silverton's killer and is set to be arrested for murder in upcoming scenes. The actress, who has played Sarah Platt since 1999, appeared to tease fans with a social media post showing her dressing room at the Salford-based set, leading to concerns that her 27-year tenure may be ending.
Sarah's Murder Reveal
In flash-forward scenes aired in February, Betsy was seen being interviewed by police after discovering a dead body on the night of her mother Lisa Swain's wedding to Carla Connor. A week after the wedding, it was revealed that the victim was Theo Silverton, who had been tormenting his husband Todd Grimshaw with months of physical and mental abuse before Todd reported him to the police.
The murder investigation initially named Todd as a suspect, along with Summer Spellman, George Shuttleworth, Christina Boyd, Gary Windass, and Theo's ex-wife Danielle Silverton. However, scenes aired in June revealed that Sarah was the one who triggered Theo's death and then enlisted her former flame Gary to help cover it up.
Confession to Kit
During Monday's (July 13) episode, Sarah confessed to her partner, detective Kit Green, after he proposed to her. Kit had cooked a romantic lunch and told Sarah he felt like the last person to know what was going on in her life. After declaring her love for him, Kit dropped to one knee and presented an engagement ring, calling her his "soulmate." Unable to keep her secret any longer, Sarah admitted she killed Theo, leaving Kit momentarily stunned but more upset that she went to Gary for help instead of him.
Arrest and Exit Speculation
New spoilers confirm that in a special single-strand episode next week, Sarah will be left with nowhere to hide as her secret spills out, leading to her arrest for murder. This has sparked concerns that Tina O'Brien may be leaving the show. The actress took to Instagram with a look at her recent camera roll, including pictures from her dressing room at Corrie's set, as well as images from a sun-soaked break away from the UK and time with her dog, Cookie. "In no particular order, gorgeous last few weeks," Tina captioned the post.
