Coronation Street star Tina O'Brien appears to have ditched the UK as fans continue to worry about whether there is an exit on the cards for her from the long-running show.
The actress is famed for playing Sarah Platt, having made her debut in the role back in 1999. However, Tina didn't actually join the show until the daughter of matriarch Gail Platt turned 12, which is when Tina was 16.
Murder Plot Twist
Two decades after her debut, having been part of some of Corrie's biggest storylines, in a surprise twist, Sarah was unveiled last month as the killer of dastardly builder Theo Silverton. It comes after Theo's lifeless body was found by a horrified Betsy Swain on the night of her mum Lisa Swain's wedding to Carla Connor back in April, bringing an end to his 13-month reign of both physical and mental abuse over his partner, and Sarah's best friend, Todd Grimshaw.
Soon after, a murder investigation was launched, with Corrie confirming six suspects: Todd, Summer Spellman, Gary Windass, George Shuttleworth, Christina Boyd and Theo's ex-wife Danielle Silverton. But it was confirmed to be none of them, with viewers last month transported back to that fateful night.
In flashback scenes, Sarah was seen receiving a suspicious text from Todd's phone. She headed to the flat he had shared with Theo when she was confronted by the menacing character on scaffolding. Theo ramped up his sinister behaviour and when he threatened Sarah with violence, the Underworld factory manager defended herself by grabbing a metal pipe, which she hit on Theo's head, sending him crashing to the ground below. Upon realising what she had done, she phoned her former flame Gary to help her.
Confession and Arrest
Corrie fans later watched as Sarah confessed the truth to Todd, while Kit remained determined to pin Theo's murder on Gary, not realising he had been covering for Sarah. That was until she confessed to her copper beau, DC Kit Green, last week, just as he was trying to pop the question. The police have since found enough evidence to arrest Sarah, and during Tuesday's (July 21) episode of Corrie, Lisa confirmed to Kit that they had enough evidence to charge Sarah with Theo's murder.
Spoilers for the episodes ahead have already given a glimpse at Sarah's time behind bars. But it has left Corrie fans wondering if this will lead to a permanent exit for Sarah — and Tina — from Weatherfield.
While viewers are having to wait and see how the storyline unfolds, Tina has been seen enjoying some R&R. Taking to her Instagram Story this week, the soap star shared a picture of herself sporting a striped bikini top and sunglasses as she looked away from the camera. She was standing on a sandy beach with a blue sea and skies glistening in the background, suggesting she had ditched the UK for more exotic climes.
It comes after Tina was among the Corrie stars who headed out in Manchester on Friday night (July 17) for the annual Corrie summer party. It was later that her co-star Lucy Fallon, who plays on-screen daughter Bethany Platt, shared a sweet photo of the pair in a warm embrace.
