Timothée Chalamet has unveiled a drastic new haircut, ditching his trademark curls for a buzz cut while promoting his upcoming film, Marty Supreme. The 29-year-old actor’s transformation sparked mixed reactions among fans on social media.
Chalamet revealed the look during a livestream, where he stood in a clear box surrounded by orange ping-pong balls. He initially wore a large orange ping-pong ball over his head before removing it to show his shorn hair. The stream ended with the announcement that Marty Supreme will hit cinemas on Christmas Day in the US and Canada, and on 1 January 2026 in the UK.
Fans took to X to share their thoughts, with one writing: “He looks like he’s about to drop the most emotional techno album of the year.” Another joked: “Homie is about to enlist in the Marine Corps.” Some commented that the haircut made him appear older, with one user saying: “Holy s*** he’s 40 already? D*** time flies.”
Set in the 1950s, Marty Supreme follows young athlete Marty Mauser’s dream of becoming a champion table tennis player. The fictionalised film is inspired by the real-life American champion Marty Reisman. Alongside Chalamet, the star-studded cast includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler, the Creator, Odessa A’zion, Fran Drescher and Abel Ferrara.
Chalamet attended the film’s premiere at the New York Film Festival with his girlfriend Kylie Jenner, where he described the project as “a love letter to New York”. The Independent reported positive reviews from attendees.
