Olly Murs has apologised for a controversial prank video that went viral earlier this week. The 35-year-old The Voice star posted a TikTok clip in which he tricked his girlfriend Amelia Tank by cutting the bottom out of a Pringles can and placing his penis inside.
In the video, Tank reached into the can for a Pringle but instead encountered Murs's genitals. The stunt drew criticism from some fans, who expressed disgust and accused him of undermining consent. Murs later took to Twitter to apologise.
He wrote: 'So I've had a few days to think about this, and wanted to apologise to anyone who has been offended by my social videos.' He added: 'My intention was only to make people smile and laugh during these trying times.' He ended with a plea to '#bekind #stayathome.'
The apology prompted a wave of support from followers. One wrote: 'You shouldn't have to be. Some people are just idiots... all of your fans love and adore you & they know that was not your intention.' Another said the videos 'have been a welcome distraction from the scary chaos of the world.'
However, not all feedback was positive. One user noted: 'You have a lot of young fans maybe just think a little before you decide to post something like that. There may be a few parents who don’t want to explain what was happening.'
