Michael Selwood, a popular TikTok influencer known as Mikey, was found dead after going missing in Tameside, Greater Manchester, over the weekend. He had amassed thousands of followers on the platform.
Police search and discovery
Greater Manchester Police issued an urgent appeal for information after Michael was reported missing. Following a search, officers found him deceased at around 5pm on Sunday, July 19. His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Tributes from friends and fans
Tributes have poured in on social media. One Facebook post read: "Rest easy Michael. Gone far too soon, you will missed." Another said: "My good mate Mikey was had some good chats he is a legend in my eyes. Rip my guy." A TikTok tribute stated: "Absolutely gutted. We've had some great chats over the past few months, can't believe it rest easy big man." Another user commented: "RIP Mikey you will be missed by so many."
Balloon release planned
A Facebook page has been set up with details for a balloon release for Michael on Saturday, July 25, in Dukinfield, near Tameside.
Police statement
A GMP spokesperson said: "Sadly, officers searching for Michael found him deceased at around 5pm yesterday (19 July). Michael’s family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers at this difficult time. We would like to thank everyone who shared and supported this appeal." No further details about his death have been released.
