The Odyssey Post-Credits Scene Mocked by Fans as Marvel Trope Rejected

Christopher Nolan's epic adaptation of Homer's 'The Odyssey' has arrived in cinemas, but fans looking for a post-credits scene akin to Marvel's signature stinger will be disappointed. As with all of Nolan's previous films—except for 'The Dark Knight' trilogy—there is no mid-credits or end-credits scene. This has not stopped social media users from mocking the absence, with many posting fabricated images and titles suggesting that characters from the film will return in upcoming blockbusters like 'Avengers: Doomsday' or 'Dune 3'.

Social Media Reactions to the Missing Stinger

On X (formerly Twitter), fans shared a series of out-of-context images and fake credit cards to poke fun at the lack of a post-credits scene. One user wrote: “Make sure you stay for the post-credits scene of The Odyssey,” accompanied by unrelated images. Another posted a mock title card reading: “Odysseus Will Return In Avengers: Doomsday.” A third joked: “Crazy that they showed this after the end credits of The Odyssey,” sharing pictures that proclaimed: “Athena and Atinous will return in Dune 3” and “Athena and Telemachus will return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”

A fourth user speculated: “Wait... did that ending just tease Christopher Nolan showing up for Avengers: Doomsday? The post-credits scene had us doing a double take. Obviously we’re joking... but imagine if Marvel actually pulled that off.” They included a video with the title card: “Christopher Will Return in Avengers: Doomsday.”

Nolan’s First Post-Credits Song

While 'The Odyssey' lacks a visual post-credits scene, it does mark a first for Nolan: a song plays over the end credits. The track, titled 'When I’m Home', was co-written by Nolan with musician James Blake, composer Ludwig Göransson, and rapper Travis Scott. Scott, who appears in the film as the character Bard, previously contributed to the soundtrack of Nolan’s 'Tenet'. The song is performed by Blake and Göransson, with rapping by Scott.

'The Odyssey' is now screening in cinemas worldwide. The film stars Tom Holland as Telemachus, Anne Hathaway and Mia Goth in undisclosed roles, and features a score by Ludwig Göransson.
