Mark 'The Beast' Labbett, the star of ITV's The Chase, has revealed he has lost around two stone as part of his ongoing health transformation. The 59-year-old, who was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2017, now weighs approximately 18 stone, down from his heaviest of 29 stone.
Labbett credits his weight loss to a combination of diet, exercise, and the use of a Dexcom Continuous Glucose Monitoring Patch. The device has helped him manage his diabetes by tracking his glucose levels in real time, prompting him to be more disciplined with carbohydrates and sugars. He described the monitor as a 'real eye-opener' that showed him just how high his glucose levels had become.
The Chaser, who is a father to seven-year-old son Lawrence, says his main motivation is to stay healthy for his child. 'One of my life goals, because I was a more mature father when Lawrence appeared, is to see him graduate. He'll be 21 when I'm 71, 72, and that's my mission,' Labbett explained.
His weight loss journey began during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, when nurseries closed and he found himself more active with his toddler. He also credited his Labrador Retriever, Baloo, for encouraging him to walk more. Labbett achieved his weight loss without surgery, as he was advised against a gastric band due to his body's sugar processing.
