The Chase star Jenny Ryan, known as The Vixen, has revealed she underwent surgery to remove her thyroid gland after it became enlarged and started causing problems. The 44-year-old ITV quizmaster shared photos from her hospital stay and recovery on social media, showing a prominent scar on her neck.
Jenny Ryan's Thyroid Surgery and Recovery
In a lengthy Instagram statement, Ryan wrote: "Hello my lovelies. You might notice my new scar. You'd be hard pushed to not spot it, given it's right on the front of my neck." She humorously noted that while she would have preferred an exciting reason like an old-timey duel or Olympic fencing practice, the reality was less glamorous. "My thyroid gland made a bid for fame and got so big it started causing some problems so we* chopped it out," she added.
Ryan assured fans that the surgery went well, stating: "I'm fine. Surgery was all good and the consultant is very happy. My voice still works and it's healing nicely." She noted that she had to stay still for a couple of weeks "in case my head fell off" but is now recovering well.
Gratitude to NHS and Medical Staff
The Chaser expressed deep gratitude to the medical team who cared for her at University College Hospital (UCH). "Thanks to the head and neck gang and all the terrific people who looked after me at UCH. The NHS is beyond wonderful," she wrote.
Ryan's post was flooded with messages of support from fans and fellow celebrities. The thyroid gland, located in the neck, produces hormones that regulate metabolism. Enlargement, known as goitre, can cause breathing or swallowing difficulties if it grows too large.
