The final season of FX's acclaimed comedy-drama The Bear includes a touching tribute to actor and director Rob Reiner, who tragically died in December 2024 alongside his wife, Michele. Reiner, 78, appeared in Season 4 as business consultant Albert Schnur but could not return for the fifth and final season.
Reiner's Role in The Bear
Albert Schnur was introduced in Season 4 to advise grill cook Ebraheim (Edwin Lee Gibson) on franchising the restaurant's profitable sandwich window. Reiner, known for directing iconic films like Stand By Me, When Harry Met Sally..., and The Princess Bride, brought his signature charm to the role.
The Heartbreaking Tribute
In the final episode, Ebraheim calls Albert to inform him that head chef Carmy Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) has approved the franchise plan. After Albert promises to send documents, Ebraheim pauses, smiles, and says, “As you wish.” This line is a direct reference to Reiner's 1987 film The Princess Bride, where the character Westley uses it to express his love for Buttercup.
Fans quickly noticed the tribute on social media. One viewer wrote: “ugh broke my f****** heart. you know rob would’ve played the f*** out of actually coaching ebra.” Another exclaimed: “Damn near cried through every episode of the bear final season but then they F****** THREW IN ‘AS YOU WISH’.” A third fan shared: “EBRA'S, ‘AS YOU WISH’. YOU GUYS CAN'T DO THIS TO ME I LITERALLY JUST WATCHED PRINCESS BRIDE A FEW NIGHTS AGO. RIP ROB REINER.”
Rob Reiner's Legacy
Reiner was found dead in his home last December with his wife Michele, 70. Their son, Nick, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and has pleaded not guilty. The filmmaker's contributions to cinema and television remain widely celebrated.
The Bear Season 5 is now streaming on Disney+.
