Tess Daly has revealed that she kept her pregnancy a secret from BBC bosses during the early days of her Strictly Come Dancing career. The presenter admitted she feared being replaced if her condition became known.
Appearing on Giovanna Fletcher’s Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast on Tuesday, Daly said she initially decided not to tell BBC bosses in 2004 that she was expecting her first child. She explained: “What if they didn’t want me because they don’t want a visibly pregnant woman on a prime time show on a Saturday night, which by the way in 2004, you didn’t see many.”
Daly recalled that a few weeks after accepting the job, she had a visible “bump” at a press conference and had to come clean. However, she said: “Nobody minded and it was absolutely fine.”
