CCTV footage has captured the moment 18-year-old Euan Lonnen sprinted after a runaway car and climbed inside to stop it, saving two women trapped in the back. The incident occurred in Dingwall, northern Scotland.
Quick-Thinking Teen Springs into Action
Euan was working at the Highland Farm Cafe when a customer pointed out a driverless car slowly rolling across the car park with two women in the back. He initially tried to turn the steering wheel, but it was locked because the driver had turned off the engine and removed the keys.
Without hesitation, Euan climbed into the car and pulled the handbrake, bringing the vehicle to a halt just centimetres from another parked car. He said: “Something inside of me said ‘just get in the car,’ and I put the handbrake on. The car had started skidding, so it didn’t really stop until about a centimetre away from the other car.”
No Injuries and No Damage
Neither of the passengers was hurt, and both cars escaped damage. Euan, who was working as a supervisor at the cafe, added: “It was very, very close, and everyone was a bit shaken up.”

Cafe owners Kenneth and Lesley shared the CCTV footage on social media, where it garnered thousands of likes and comments. Kenneth said: “We’re very proud of how Euan reacted to the car rolling away. Euan is always looking for ways to look after our customers and this is another example of his looking out for others. The two elderly passengers hadn’t even got their seat belts on so his actions really did save the day!”
