Taylor Swift has announced that she now owns all of the music she has ever created, including unreleased tracks, music videos, concert films, album artwork and photography. The 35-year-old pop star described the news as her 'greatest dream come true' and thanked fans for their support, which she said enabled her to buy back her masters from Shamrock Capital.
Swift’s announcement follows years of re-recording earlier albums after a dispute over her back catalogue. She has so far released four re-recorded versions, and hinted that her 2006 debut album and 2017's 'Reputation' may still be forthcoming. She noted that the debut album has already been completely re-recorded, while she has not yet finished a quarter of 'Reputation (Taylor’s Version)'.
In a lengthy statement, Swift said she had been 'bursting into tears of joy' since learning the deal was finalised. She expressed gratitude to Shamrock Capital for being 'the first people to ever offer' her the chance to purchase her music outright with 'full autonomy'. She added that the company saw the masters as a 'business deal' but also recognised what they meant to her personally.
Swift reflected on the emotional journey, saying she had 'almost stopped thinking it could ever happen' after 20 years of setbacks. She described the re-recordings as a 'celebration' rather than a project born of 'sadness and longing'. The singer also revealed that she has not yet decided when to release the remaining re-recorded albums, but indicated they would emerge 'when the time is right'.
