Joe Alwyn has spoken publicly for the first time about his split from Taylor Swift, describing the end of their six-and-a-half-year relationship as 'a hard thing to navigate'. In an interview with the Sunday Times Style Magazine, the British actor addressed the breakup, which was reported in April 2023.
Alwyn, 33, acknowledged the unusual circumstances of their separation, noting that it became public knowledge just a week after it happened. 'What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in,' he said. He added that the media scrutiny turned a personal event into 'a very unreal space' of tabloids and social media.
The actor declined to comment on Swift's latest album, 'The Tortured Poets Department', which fans speculate contains songs about him, including 'So Long, London' and 'loml'. He also avoided questions about his current dating life, citing the intense attention his past relationship has received.
Alwyn and Swift, 34, were together from 2016 until early 2023. Swift has since moved on with NFL star Travis Kelce. Alwyn, meanwhile, is promoting his new film 'Kinds of Kindness', directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, in which he stars alongside Emma Stone.
