Wedding Preparations Underway at Madison Square Garden
Singer Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce’s wedding date appears to be set, with preparations under way for the ceremony at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The couple, who announced their engagement last August, are expected to marry at the venue on Friday, following a private rehearsal dinner on Thursday. An unnamed law enforcement official briefed on security plans confirmed the wedding details, noting that authorities have been warned about an influx of “Swifties” to New York. The wedding is set for Friday, July 4, with the rehearsal dinner planned for the day before.
2023: The Beginning of a Romance
In 2023, Kelce, 36, announced on his New Heights podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother Jason, that he wanted to date Swift, also 36, after he failed to meet her when she performed at Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs. Swift later said on the podcast that she considered it “a wild, romantic gesture” but joked he “didn’t do any proper logistical planning” to meet her at the Eras Tour show, such as contacting her management. Instead, she revealed he thought his status on the team would allow him to go backstage. Swift remarked: “Because he knows the elevator lady, he thought he could talk to her about just getting down to my dressing room. That’s how it works in 1973.”
In September 2023, Swift made her first trip to watch Kelce play, sitting next to his mother. At an Eras Tour concert in November, Swift changed the lyrics to her song “Karma” from “karma is the guy on the screen coming straight home to me” to “karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me,” referencing Kelce.
2024: Super Bowl and Album References
In February 2024, Kelce’s Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, and Swift was cheered by fans as she appeared on the big screen. The pair embraced at full-time. In April, Swift released her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, featuring the song “The Alchemy,” believed to be about Kelce. An anthology edition included “So High School,” also said to be about the NFL star.
Kelce appeared at one of Swift’s Eras Tour shows at London’s Wembley Stadium on June 23, 2024, arriving on stage in a top hat and tails to help her prepare for a performance. After the show, Swift posted on Instagram: “still cracking up/swooning over @killatrav’s Eras Tour debut.”
2025: Engagement and New Album
In 2025, Swift announced her 12th studio album, The Life Of A Showgirl, on Kelce’s New Heights podcast, set for release on October 3. She described it as something she worked on while in Europe on the Eras Tour, saying, “I was physically exhausted at this point in the tour, but I was so mentally stimulated and so excited to be creating.” Kelce said the fact she recorded the album while touring was “still blowing my mind.”
On August 26, 2025, Swift and Kelce announced their engagement via a joint Instagram post, sharing photos of the proposal and the pair embracing in a garden. The post read: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” The Life Of A Showgirl was released in October, featuring songs referencing Kelce, including “Opalite,” which mentions his birthstone, opal.
2026: Wedding Week
In the week leading up to the wedding, workers were seen lifting large props into Madison Square Garden, including a grand piano and tree branches. “No parking” signs were placed around the arena. A fleet of forklifts and lorries delivered equipment, with a box marked “40 mirrorball” spotted in a lorry. Food deliveries included items labeled “garden party,” with delivery staff reportedly unaware of the contents. The wedding is expected to draw a large crowd of fans to New York City.
