We're all enjoying some much-needed downtime in Boston after a whirlwind few days that none of us will forget in a hurry.
The Start of an Unforgettable Adventure
It all began with the pre-match party in the city centre ahead of Scotland's World Cup opener against Haiti. Fans kicked off the day aboard a three-hour booze cruise that sailed around Boston Harbour. The celebrations reached another level when John McGinn's deflected strike secured the vital victory we desperately needed.
The festivities rolled long into the night and well beyond sunrise on Sunday, before thousands of bleary-eyed Scots made their way to Evans Way Park, armed with bags of cans and stories from the night before. Everywhere you turned, there were tales being swapped about the scenes at Gillette Stadium, the fan zones, and the packed pubs where supporters watched the historic win unfold.
Fenway Park Turns Tartan
From there, attention shifted to Fenway Park as more than 5,000 barmy Scots descended on one of America's most iconic sporting venues. The scenes inside were nothing short of mind-blowing. Regular Red Sox supporters looked on in disbelief as a sea of tartan and Saltires poured through the turnstiles. Before long, Scots were teaching the locals our songs, explaining exactly who John McGinn is and why he holds such a special place in our hearts. Not many seemed overly concerned about what was happening on the baseball field, with the game often feeling secondary to the carnival atmosphere unfolding in the stands.
A Warm Welcome from Boston
What has stood out more than anything else over the past few days is the welcome the Scots have received. Our supporters, who have travelled thousands of miles to follow the national team, have been embraced by the people of Boston at every turn.
Whatever happens when the focus shifts back to football, one thing is certain: nobody involved is going to forget this trip any time soon. These are memories that will last a lifetime, not only for the Tartan Army but for the Bostonians who have welcomed us with open arms and joined in on the adventure along the way.
