T-Pain, one of the most recognisable voices of the 2000s urban pop scene, has a stage name that stands for 'Tallahassee Pain' – a reference to his roots and the hardships he faced growing up in Tallahassee, Florida. The revelation has been surprising fans who are only just learning the meaning behind the name.
The rapper, whose real name is Faheem Rashad Najm, celebrates his 42nd birthday today (September 30). His biggest solo tracks include his 2005 debut single 'I'm Sprung', 'Bartender' (feat. Akon), 'I'm N Luv (Wit a Stripper)' (feat. Mike Jones) and 'Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin')' (feat. Yung Joc), which reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.

Fellow Redditors quickly dismissed the idea, but the joke has developed a following online, including a tongue-in-cheek meme suggesting his hit 'Buy U a Drank' is a metaphor for the "commodification of intimacy under late-stage capitalism" and a reference to Thomas Paine's 1776 pamphlet, Common Sense.
