Sydney Sweeney Reflects on Cassie Howard's 'Euphoria' Journey and the Character's Legacy

Sydney Sweeney has opened up about her time playing Cassie Howard in HBO's 'Euphoria', saying she still thinks about what the character might get up to after the show's conclusion. The actress, who earned an Emmy nomination for the second season, returned for the third and final season, which saw Cassie navigate marriage, bankruptcy, and work as an OnlyFans model.

Speaking to Variety, Sweeney described saying goodbye to Cassie for a third time as 'bittersweet', noting that each season involved large time jumps that required her to fill in gaps in the character's life. She praised showrunner Sam Levinson for his collaborative approach, saying that returning to the set felt like 'going home'.

The 50-foot woman sequence in the final season was a highlight for Sweeney, who called it a 'wild and fun' metaphor for Cassie's desire for fame and love. She reflected on Cassie's troubled relationships, suggesting that a lack of healthy examples in childhood led her to seek validation in the wrong places.

Sweeney expressed hope that 'Euphoria' will age well, and that critics might eventually reconsider their views. 'Maybe we all had this very wrong,' she said, referring to the ongoing conversation around the show's frank sexuality and her own public scrutiny.
