Sweet Magnolias has returned to Netflix for season five, but not everyone is making a comeback. The beloved series, set in the small town of Serenity, continues to deliver drama, romance, and new challenges for its residents.
Returning Cast Members
The core trio of Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Helen (Heather Headley), and Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott) are back, navigating new personal and professional hurdles. Maddie balances her exciting new job in New York, Helen plans her wedding, and Dana Sue deals with marital troubles. Their partners also return: Maddie's husband Cal (Justin Bruening), Helen's fiancé Erik (Dion Johnstone), and Dana Sue's husband Ronnie (Brandon Quinn). Other returning faces include Kyle (Logan Allen), Lily (Artemis), Isaac (Chris Medlin), Annie (Annaliese Judge), and supporting characters like Noreen (Jamie-Lynn Spears), Jeremy (Chase Anderson), and Mayor Peggy Martin (Brittany L Smith).
Departures
Fan-favorite Ty Townsend, played by Carson Rowland, will not return for season five. In the season four finale, Ty left Serenity to pursue his music career on a European tour with his band.
New Additions
Season five introduces several new characters, played by notable actors:
- Jamie-Lynn Sigler as Nell Winters: Best known as Meadow Soprano in The Sopranos, Sigler plays an acclaimed writer who befriends Maddie.
- Courtney Grace as Courtney Sinclair: Ronnie's new business partner, described as hard-charging. Grace has appeared in Stranger Things and Beyond the Gates.
- John Gabriel Rodriquez as Clark Bellson: A rival business owner who causes trouble for the Magnolias. Rodriquez is known for The Vampire Diaries and SWAT.
- Iman Benson as Jessica Whitley: Erik's niece, who brings unexpected news. Benson has starred in Alexa & Katie and The Midnight Club.
- Aidan Merwarth as Noah Wharton: The Whartons' grandson, a newcomer to acting with credits in NCIS and SEAL Team.
- Austin Woods as Blake Monaghan: Another newcomer, with roles in 9-1-1: Nashville and This Is Us. Both Noah and Blake compete for the attention of one of the Mini Magnolias.
