Emma Roberts, 54, a Quaker chaplain from Swansea, has been dubbed 'Mandy Burnham' online after her TikTok videos went viral because of her uncanny resemblance to Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
The Viral Resemblance
Emma originally established her social media presence to share serious content about religion and spiritual journeys on her YouTube channel, Quakerology. However, when she began posting on TikTok, viewers completely disregarded her theological content. Instead, the comments section became inundated with observations that she looked identical to the Labour politician. Viewers noted that her animated eyebrows, thick-framed spectacles, and distinctive quiff hairstyle render her a perfect match for the Prime Minister. Even her own mother and partner acknowledge the resemblance.
After multiple TikTok videos garnered more than a quarter of a million views, a commenter proposed she alter her username to 'Mandy Burnham'. She chose to embrace the jest and officially modified her name on the platform.
Embracing the Joke
Emma reports that absolutely nobody approaches her or believes she resembles him in person, but the TikTok algorithm dramatically heightened the likeness. She has welcomed the viral attention as 'a bit of fun' and has featured on prominent UK television programmes including This Morning and BBC Breakfast.
While she considers Andy Burnham appears to be a 'decent bloke,' she publicly criticised his tea-making technique as an 'abomination' after he shared a video demonstrating himself adding milk to the mug before the teabag, quipping that he 'needs a talking to'.
Emma is currently utilising her newfound platform to secure a dream guest for her podcast. She has publicly extended an invitation to Prime Minister Andy Burnham to appear on her channel to explore how his Catholic upbringing shapes his politics. Alternatively, she joked she would gladly interview his mother instead.
