Hear'Say singer Suzanne Shaw has shared an emotional update following her split from fiancé Sam Greenfield after 12 years together. The 44-year-old took to Instagram on Friday, February 27, to address the breakup, confessing life has been “tough” and that she needed time to process the change.
Shaw, who rose to fame with her band Hear'Say in 2001, got engaged to Greenfield in 2014 and they welcomed son Rafferty in 2015. She also has a son, Corey, 21, from a previous relationship with Darren Day. In the tearful video, she said she did not expect to address the split publicly but felt it was important due to the nature of her platform, which focuses on mental health and wellbeing.
“I’ve been navigating some stuff in my life which is a break up that I’m going through at the moment,” she said. “It’s been tough, it’s been really tough.” Shaw confirmed the relationship ended in January, describing the process as “a little bit messy”. She credited her six years of sobriety and dedication to personal development for giving her the tools to cope.
Shaw emphasised her commitment to healing, saying she has been tapping into therapy, meditation, and running, and is entering “a new chapter of deep healing” focused on self-love. “I’m going into the era of having the greatest love affair with myself,” she added. In the caption, she asked for privacy regarding details, noting that her family remains her priority.
Fans offered support in the comments, with one writing, “You are right in saying this is a chapter, the next one will be different.” Others encouraged her to lean into stability and look after herself. Shaw concluded the video by expressing readiness to move forward with total self-healing.
