Susanna Reid's GMB Return Date After Special Project Leave

Susanna Reid, the 55-year-old presenter of Good Morning Britain (GMB), is absent from the ITV breakfast show this week as she works on a confidential "special project." She is scheduled to return to her hosting duties on Monday, July 6, 2026.

Last Appearance and Breaking News

Reid was last seen on the GMB sofa on Monday, June 22, 2026, co-hosting alongside Ed Balls. That morning featured dramatic developments, with cameras stationed outside Downing Street. Reid hinted that breaking news could emerge during the broadcast, and the show extended to 10am, replacing Lorraine Kelly's usual slot. She stated: "We are now in rolling news mode, we will be on air until 10am this morning because we've anticipated it all morning." During the programme, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer announced his resignation, stating he would step down once a successor is chosen, admitting he was not best placed to lead Labour into the next general election.

Reid's Instagram Announcement

Following Starmer's resignation, Reid posted on Instagram: "BREAKING! At 9.30 this morning the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer RESIGNED as Prime Minister live @gmb. ANOTHER resignation at Number 10 in the last DECADE after Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss, and Sunak." In the same post, she revealed her upcoming absence: "I'm on a special project and will be back @gmb on Monday 6th July, the week that nominations for a new leader open. See you then @itv."

Covering Hosts

Kate Garraway took over co-hosting duties alongside Ed Balls on Monday, June 29. Adil Ray confirmed he will present GMB on Thursday, July 2, while Reid is away. On June 24, Ray posted on Instagram: "Some news! Yes I have not been on in a while but glad to be on a little over the coming weeks, on what remains one the most important shows on UK television, during the most important of times. Being one of the only (if not the only) Muslims to host a major news show in mainstream peak daytime. So many others have left the traditional outlets, so I am fortunate and grateful of the continued opportunity." He listed further dates: July 2 and 9, July 30 and 31, August 6 and 7.

Project Details Under Wraps

The specifics of Reid's special project have not been disclosed, and ITV has remained silent on the matter. Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
