Heartbreaking Reason GMB's Susanna Reid Split From Famous Ex: 'It Was Tough'
Susanna Reid Split From Ex: 'It Was Tough'

Susanna Reid split from her long-term partner Dominic Cotton in 2014 after 16 years together. The Good Morning Britain presenter has often kept her private life out of the spotlight, but the reasons behind their breakup have been revealed.

Reid and Cotton, both journalists, met while working at the BBC in 1998. They share three children: Sam, Finn, and Jack. The couple never married.

The Split and Strictly Come Dancing

The breakup was announced in 2014, shortly after Reid participated in the 11th series of Strictly Come Dancing. Despite speculation, she has maintained that the show was not the cause. She described it as a "parallel universe of sequins and stardust."

Reflecting on the split, Reid told The Mirror: "Over 16 years, you're going to change a bit, both of you. Would it have happened anyway? I don't know. I don't analyse it."

Co-Parenting Under One Roof

After the split, Reid and Cotton continued living together in the same house to co-parent their children. She told The Sun's Fabulous magazine: "We still get on so well. Dom is still such a hands-on dad, and we really co-parent. So, we live separately but together, happily, in the same house."

Workload and a Christmas Gift

Reid's busy schedule, including her work on BBC Breakfast and Strictly, was reported to have contributed to the breakup. Cotton admitted in 2013 that her Strictly commitments had taken a toll, saying: "Her schedule has been really full-on. I'm looking forward to having my partner back. It's been tough, but we knew it would be."

In 2018, Reid revealed that she knew the relationship was over after giving Cotton an electric toothbrush for their first Christmas. She said on Good Morning Britain: "For mine and Dom's first Christmas, I gave him an electric toothbrush. If we were married, Ben [Shephard], you'd think that was a sign of love. But Dom wasn't impressed, sadly, and that was the beginning of the end."
