Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid has slammed King Charles over son Prince Harry's UK accommodation situation, saying she would always find a bed for her child if he came to stay. The Duke of Sussex is not staying in Buckingham Palace during his return to the UK this week.
Accommodation Confusion
It was reported on Monday that Harry had accepted an offer to base himself at the Palace during the London leg of his tour. However, moments later, the reports were debunked, as it became clear that a response from the Sussexes had arrived too late, and as a result, arrangements for a stay at Buckingham Palace could not be made.
"It feels like this is an emotional reaction from the King," Reid said in response to comments from co-host Ed Balls. "This feels like this whole language of [I've] snapped. It's like I'm going to put my foot down," she said on the ITV breakfast show on Tuesday July 7, a day after the King's youngest son arrived back in his native UK.
Reid's Personal View
Her remarks came after she admitted: "The King is pretty dignified normally and doesn't allow himself to be dragged into the drama so I'm not sure what's going on here. I mean, I said earlier, if it was my son - my son and his entourage. Whether it's girlfriends, wives, children, security [they] are welcome at my house at any time. They could turn up in the middle of the night, and there would be a birth at the stable," she said.
Reason for Visit
The principal reason Harry has returned home is to attend One Year to Go events for the Invictus Games, which are taking place in both London and Birmingham. It remains to be seen whether Meghan Markle and the couple's two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will join him at any other point during the week in the UK.
He had originally intended to travel with Meghan and their children. It has been four years since the children last saw their grandfather in person when they visited the UK for Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. Harry, meanwhile, last visited the UK in September 2025 and had a brief meeting with King Charles at Clarence House.
Possible Visit to Althorp
It had previously been reported that Harry intended to take his wife and children to Althorp House in Northamptonshire to see his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales' grave. The house, which is owned by his uncle, Charles, Earl Spencer, is mysteriously closed between July 10 and 11.
