Susanna Reid Announces Two-Week Break from GMB

Susanna Reid has confirmed she will be absent from Good Morning Britain (GMB) for the next two weeks, starting June 22, 2026. The 55-year-old broadcaster announced her break on Instagram shortly after covering the resignation of Sir Keir Starmer as Prime Minister and Labour Party leader.

Reid's Announcement and Special Project

Reid, who returned to ITV's London headquarters on Monday morning to co-host GMB with Ed Balls, revealed that she is taking time off for a special project. In an Instagram post accompanying photos and videos from the studio, she wrote: “I'm on a special project and will be back @gmb on Monday 6th July, the week that nominations for a new leader open. See you then @itv.”

Her absence means viewers will not see her on the breakfast show for the remainder of June and the first days of July. She is expected to return on July 6, 2026, when nominations for a new Labour leader are set to begin.

Coverage of Starmer's Resignation

Earlier that morning, Reid and the GMB team had been anticipating major political news, with camera crews stationed outside Downing Street. During the broadcast, Sir Keir Starmer emerged outside Number 10 to announce his resignation as Prime Minister and Labour leader. He stated that he recognised he was not the best person to lead Labour into the next general election and had informed the King of his intention to step down.

Starmer added that he had asked Labour's governing body to establish a timeline for finding his replacement, with nominations opening on Thursday, July 9, and concluding by the summer recess on Thursday, July 16.

Before Starmer's address, Reid announced that GMB would be extended until 10am, taking over Lorraine Kelly's usual 9.30am slot. She said: “We are now in rolling news mode, we will be on air until 10am this morning because we've anticipated it all morning.”

Viewer Reactions

Fans of the show expressed disappointment at Reid's upcoming absence. One Instagram user commented: “You will be missed Susanna.” Another said: “Oh it's never the same when you're not there!” A third viewer wrote: “Enjoy your special project. I'll be looking forward to what that is,” while another added: “Susanna, great coverage of Keir Starmer's resignation by you and the Good Morning Britain team. Look forward to seeing you back on the 6th July.”

It is not yet known who will stand in for Reid during her break, though likely candidates include ITV colleagues Kate Garraway, Ranvir Singh, or Charlotte Hawkins.
