Actress Sue Johnston, best known for her roles in The Royle Family and Brookside, has called on Stacey Solomon for help at her Cheshire home. The 82-year-old admitted her struggle with clutter, which would be no problem for Solomon and her team on the hit BBC show Sort Your Life Out.
Sue Johnston's Declutter Plea
Johnston, who lives in the leafy Cheshire suburb of Wilmslow, confessed she is in desperate need of assistance. She expressed interest in a celebrity version of Sort Your Life Out, where Stacey Solomon, alongside experts Dilly Carter, Robert Bent, and Iwan Carrington, helps families transform their homes through decluttering, upcycling, and recycling.
"My house is such a mess," Sue sighed during a chat with the Mirror. "I’m hoping the BBC does a celeb version of Sort Your Life Out so I can get Stacey Solomon to tidy it up for me."
Struggle to Let Go of Possessions
The actress revealed she struggles to part with her belongings, even though she knows she has too many. "I can’t get rid of things! It’s so hard," she explained. "I watch Stacey Solomon’s show where they come and take all your stuff - I wondered if they’d do a celebrity one and come to my house."
Personal Life and Family
Sue has been single since her second marriage to theatre director David Pammenter ended in 1980. She raised her son Joel as a single parent after David left when Joel was three months old. Now, she is delighted to be a grandmother to two grandsons. "I love being Granny," she said recently. "I think grandchildren are the reward you get for getting old."
She lives alone with her beloved rescue dogs but sees her close family regularly on weekends, when she wishes her home had less clutter.
Upcoming Project: Ann Droid
Next month, Sue will appear in the new BBC comedy Ann Droid alongside Philomena Cunk and Motherland favourite Diane Morgan. Set in 2029, she plays a recently widowed pensioner who is gifted a secondhand D500 eldercare robot named Linda by her son. Initially finding the robot intrusive and annoying, she soon realizes Linda can be helpful with errands and settling scores.
BBC bosses hope the sitcom achieves success similar to Sue's previous role as Barbara in The Royle Family, where she starred opposite her former Brookside co-star Ricky Tomlinson, who played her on-screen husband Jim.
