Lyon: France's Underrated City You Need to Visit

Lyon, France's third-largest city, is being hailed as an underrated gem by a TikTok creator who spent four days there and couldn't get enough of its picturesque streets, hidden passageways, and incredible views. The city is also considered the country's culinary capital and the birthplace of cinema, thanks to the Lumière brothers.

Why Lyon Wins Over Visitors

Reanna, who shares hidden gems on her TikTok page with 21,600 followers, asked: "Why is no one talking about this European city? Welcome to... Lyon." In her caption, she revealed why Lyon "officially" won her over: "I spent 4 days here and honestly, I couldn't get enough of how picturesque it is. From the colourful streets and hidden passageways to incredible views, there's so much to explore."

She listed several highlights, including the UNESCO-listed Old Town with its beautiful Renaissance architecture, and the city's status as France's culinary capital.

Things to Do in Lyon

Lyon offers plenty of activities, from walking through secret covered traboules (covered pedestrian shortcuts) to visiting the hilltop Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière. Visitors can wander the cobbled stone streets of one of Europe's largest Renaissance old towns, ride the funicular for city views, and try local meat dishes and pink praline tarts at traditional restaurants.

At Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse, indoor food stalls are packed with local cheese, wine, and meats. The Parc de la Tête d'Or features a large lake, botanical gardens, and a free zoo area. Many tourists also check out the Musée des Confluences, a modern museum at the meeting point of the two rivers.
