Strictly Come Dancing star Ellie Taylor has revealed she required hospital treatment this week following a nasty fall. Returning to her BBC Radio 2 presenting role on Saturday (10 October), where she's covering for Strictly's new host Emma Willis, the 42-year-old detailed her painful mishap.
After co-presenter Sally Boazman described her week as "a disaster", Ellie confessed she could sympathise having endured her own incident.
Hospital trip after woodland fall
The Strictly: It Takes Two presenter revealed: "I fell over in the woods Sally, I had to go to hospital for my poorly thumb. It's really bad but the bruising doesn't suggest that."
When questioned about how she managed to take the tumble, Ellie explained: "I went for a run," before clarifying that it wasn't in the dark.
"I was in flow state, when you work out and you're really enjoying yourself and sort of not thinking about anything and not looking where I was going, and I tripped over a tree root in the middle of the forest," she continued.
"I landed on my thumb because I was holding my phone as well."
When pressed about why she'd been clutching her phone, Ellie explained she had nowhere else to store it after donning the "wrong leggings" and didn't fancy tucking it into her bra.
Defending the new Strictly hosts
Ellie's injury follows her sharing her views on this year's Strictly Come Dancing overhaul, amid controversy. Emma, Johannes Radebe, who Ellie previously partnered with, and comedian Josh Widdicombe took over hosting responsibilities following the exits of Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.
While numerous viewers have applauded the trio's performance, others have been more critical, especially regarding Josh, with some questioning his necessity on the programme.
Speaking to The i Paper, Ellie suggested the backlash might arise from people's resistance to change, as she championed the new hosts. "People don't like change," she revealed.
"I think they're great. There's such great energy in that room; they're all so pumped to be there. They'll settle into the roles even better than they already have."
She added regarding the criticism: "Will everyone just chill out? The key bit of Strictly is the dancing. Let's remember that all the fundamentals are there."
New role on It Takes Two
Ellie has also embraced a fresh position on the programme this year, taking over from Janette Manrara and Fleur East as host of Strictly: It Takes Two.
Gushing about the opportunity, she said: "It's such a dream gig for me. It's all the things I love and all the things I'm good at."
Tonight, the remaining 14 couples will grace the dance floor once more, hoping to edge closer to claiming the coveted Glitterball Trophy. Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 6.15pm on BBC One.
