Strictly fans hail Lawrence Robb a 'dark horse' despite blunder

Strictly Come Dancing returned for its fourth week on October 17, with Icon Week delivering spectacular routines, jaw-dropping lifts and impressive scores as judges handed out plenty of nines.

One performance in particular got viewers talking, as Scottish actor Lawrence Robb took to the dance floor with professional partner Jowita Przystal. The pair caught the attention of both the judges and the audience thanks to one particular moment during their routine.

Routine to Ricky Martin hit

The duo brought energy and excitement to their routine to La Copa de la Vida by Ricky Martin, with choreography filled with tricks and lifts - although there may have been one too many.

At the very end of the routine, things took an unexpected turn as Lawrence lifted Jowita into the air and spun her around before attempting to lower her smoothly into their final pose. The move didn't quite go to plan, with Jowita landing with an elegant thud.

Judges and hosts react to blunder

Despite the slip-up, the pair seemed pleased with their performance and celebrated in high spirits as the crowd erupted in cheers. The bump had not gone unnoticed by the judges and hosts Josh Widdicombe and Emma Willis.

Josh was left stunned by the moment and jokingly called for an end to the lifts, shouting: "No more lifts! Stop the lifts, stop the lifts." He then checked on Jowita, asking: "Are you okay?" to which she smiled and replied: "Absolutely!"

"Oh my word," Josh continued, still taken aback as he turned to the judging panel. "Anton, I was watching you... That final – I'm gonna call it throw... you had your head in your hands!"

Anton Du Beke appeared to agree that the ambitious move had not gone to plan, chuckling as he described the lift's dramatic ending. He recalled the initial "whoosh!" followed by the "crash", adding: "And everyone went 'Ohhh!'" He then quipped to Jowita: "Well, good luck with that bruise in the morning," as she laughed off the mishap.

Impressive score and fan praise

Despite the blunder, Anton was extremely impressed by Lawrence's performance, telling him: "That was spectacular, I have to tell you. Your performance is outstanding, never drop below that. Your lifts are amazing."

The Emmerdale star, who hails from Kilmacolm, scored an impressive 30 overall, making it his highest score of the season yet. It wasn't only the judges who were stunned by Lawrence's performance.

Taking to X, many viewers were extremely impressed with Lawrence and Jowita, with one hailing him as a "dark horse". Another stated: "NOW LAWRENCE THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR." A third viewer expressed: "My jaw has just dropped," with another agreeing as they replied: "I can't, that was phenomenal."
