Sir Mick Jagger is celebrating his 83rd birthday on Sunday, and his Rolling Stones bandmates past and present have sent their wishes. The milestone comes just weeks after the band released their latest studio album, Foreign Tongues, on July 10.
Birthday messages from bandmates
Ronnie Wood, 79, posted a picture of his painting of the singer on his Instagram story with a “happy birthday” message.
Former bassist Bill Wyman, 89, a founding member who left in the early 1990s, wrote on social media: “Happy 83rd Birthday. I’ve been there, it ain’t that bad. Wishing you many more. Love Bill.” Wyman made a guest return on the band’s 2023 album Hackney Diamonds, playing bass on “Live By The Sword”.
The Rolling Stones’ official Instagram account posted: “Happy Birthday, Mick. You continue to inspire generations with your energy, creativity and unmistakable spirit – there is no one quite like you. Wishing you an amazing day.” The post included several pictures of Sir Mick through the years.
Singer-songwriter Lisa Fischer, who has toured regularly with the band since 1989, commented: “Here here, Mick is da man. Beautiful post, happy blessed birthday Mick.”
Band’s legacy and recent album
Widely regarded as one of the greatest rock and roll bands, The Rolling Stones have eight UK number one singles and 14 UK number one albums, with hits including “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”, “Start Me Up” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”. The latest album features guest appearances from former Beatles bassist Sir Paul McCartney, The Cure’s Robert Smith, and Steve Winwood.
The band’s original line-up on their first album included Sir Mick, guitarist Keith Richards, bassist Wyman, drummer Charlie Watts (died 2021), and guitarist Brian Jones (died 1969). Jones was succeeded by Mick Taylor for a run of critically acclaimed albums such as Let It Bleed (1969), Sticky Fingers (1971) and Exile On Main Street (1972), before Wood joined in 1975.
