Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler and Marcia Gay Harden have led tributes to their late First Wives Club co-star Diane Keaton, who died on October 11 at the age of 79.
Hawn, who starred alongside Keaton and Midler in the 1996 comedy, shared a heartfelt message on social media. She recalled their time together on set, writing: “I was blessed to make First Wives Club with you, our day starting with coffee in the makeup trailer, laughing and joking, right through to the very last day of filming. It was a roller coaster of love.”
Hawn also noted that Keaton never liked praise, but added: “You can’t tell me to ‘shut up’ honey.” She reflected on their agreement to grow old together, saying: “Well, we never got to live together, but we did grow older together. Who knows…maybe in the next life.”
Midler described Keaton as “hilarious, a complete original, and completely without guile”. She wrote: “What you saw was who she was…oh, la, lala!” Harden, who played Keaton’s therapist in the film, called her “beautiful, unique, talented, compassionate” and noted that she “worked from love and grew from love”.
