The gathering at a Kentish Town pub included loyalists such as Rachel Reeves, Darren Jones, Jo Stevens, and Richard Hermer. Officials and staffers drank wine and partied late into the night, occasionally checking X (formerly Twitter) for updates on Burnham’s new Cabinet appointments.
The pub walls were covered with behind-the-scenes photos from Starmer’s two-year tenure. Aides wore custom T-shirts featuring the ex-PM’s face and the slogan ‘Starmer Solid’, a nickname for his allies. One woman was seen with former Downing Street press aide George Mason, wearing a shirt reading ‘sparkle with Starmer’.
Karaoke and Emotional Farewell
Staff later moved to the pub’s karaoke room. A source told The Sun: “It was a weird mix of anger and sadness. I think everyone was taken aback by just how big and brutal the purge was.” Another added: “It is a massacre by the Manchester Mafia. They are running No 10 now.”
Starmer left the pub to cheers, holding a bouquet of flowers over his head while holding his wife’s hand. Earlier that day, he delivered his final speech as PM, calling it “the privilege of (his) life” and saying he left “with good grace and with a smile”.
