Stacey Solomon has shared heartbreaking details about the rescue of her two new ponies, Thumbelina and Mermaid, after she and husband Joe Swash welcomed them to their home, Pickle Cottage. The couple, known for their BBC reality series Stacey & Joe, have been documenting their expansion of the property's land, including Joe's fishing lake and glamping site.
Rescue Story Revealed
Earlier this month, Stacey announced the arrival of the ponies in a sweet video showing their children meeting the animals. She wrote on Instagram: "We are officially Pony Foster Parents. Meet Thumbelina & Mermaid. They are two girls who were rescued by the incredible Redwings Horse Sanctuary. Thumbelina was seriously neglected when she was rescued by Redwings who saved her & mermaid’s owner could no longer look after her."
The Sort Your Life Out host explained that the ponies have a sectioned-off grass area and a dry area, with Redwings providing guidance. Her friend Lianne from Hopefield Animal Sanctuary will also help care for them.
Heartbreaking Background
In an Instagram Story this week, Stacey shared a poster detailing Thumbelina's past. It revealed that Thumbelina was among over 100 horses and donkeys rescued from one farm in 2008, where they lived in appalling conditions. Several horses had died before help arrived. Stacey wrote: "We have these up in the stables to remind us where the girls started and how @redwingsuk found them and rescued them. It breaks my heart to think of it but also fills my heart that we get to love them now."
Plans for Fostering
Last month, Stacey excitedly shared her and Joe's plans to foster ponies. In a video, she showed Joe building an enclosure for the animals, saying: "He's been building an enclosure for if we, well, when we, because we've gone far with it now, foster some ponies. So, I've just come down to see it." She added: "This is exciting, bubba! This is actually happening!"
