Sophie Morgan is back on screens this week for the new series of Celebrity Hunted. The presenter and disability advocate has become a familiar face through her work on Loose Women and the London Paralympics.
A crash that changed everything
In 2003, aged 18, Sophie was involved in a car crash that left her with a spinal cord injury, paralysing her from the waist down. Since then, she has played a key role in changing the way disability is shown on television.
Her engagement to Tom
Sophie met her former partner Tom, an acupuncturist, while visiting a friend at university. She told Spinal Cord Injury Zone in 2013: "Tom and I hit it off and enjoyed a good flirt but nothing happened." The relationship began in 2007, and she added: "The rest is history. We started dating six years ago and last month we got engaged."
Speaking to The Telegraph in 2012, she described Tom as "my biggest support; he's training to be an acupuncturist and is passionate about herbal tea". The couple have since sadly split.
'Awful' online dating experiences
By 2023, Sophie said she was single. She told OK: "I came out of a relationship last year and I'm loving life as a single woman and being free." She also admitted to trying online dating, with mixed results. "I've had some success – some have been awful," she said.
She added: "Those who do have a good time with it, I don't know what their secret is because it's just difficult. It's difficult for anyone and then layer in the fact that I'm a wheelchair user – it throws up more complications because, at the end of the day, you are being judged on how you look and as a person with a disability, that's not what you want."
Teaming up with JJ Chalmers
On Celebrity Hunted, Sophie joins forces with JJ Chalmers, a former Royal Marine, Invictus Games medallist and Strictly Come Dancing star. Writing for The Telegraph, she said: "Living as a fugitive, I discovered my disability was not a handicap – it's what gave me my edge."
