Sopha Dopha's Daring AACTA Awards Appearance Sparks Conversation
Social media influencer Sopha Dopha, whose real name is Sophia Begg, left attendees at the AACTA Awards in Queensland utterly stunned on Friday evening. The 22-year-old internet personality arrived wearing an exceptionally skimpy, sheer dress that prominently flashed her G-string underwear, creating a dramatic red carpet moment.
A Sheer Fashion Statement
Sophia's eye-catching ensemble featured transparent panels that exposed her figure completely, with only delicate strings of diamantes and intricate silver embroidery providing minimal coverage. The plunging neckline and partially backless design did little to conceal the nude-coloured underwear beneath, yet she carried the bold look with undeniable confidence.
Moments before arriving at the HOTA venue, Sophia shared her striking appearance on Instagram with the caption 'AACTA Awards time - off we go!' She complemented the sheer frock with her golden tresses styled in soft waves, a smoky eye makeup look, and dark lip colour. The influencer completed her ensemble with staple jewellery pieces, silver stiletto-shaped nails, and a matching clutch bag.
Contrasting Red Carpet Styles
Elsewhere at the prestigious Australian awards ceremony, esteemed actors including Rachel Ward, Sarah Snook, Asher Keddie, Yerin Ha, and Phoebe Tonkin graced the red carpet in more traditional glamorous gowns. While plunging necklines appeared to be a recurring theme throughout the evening, Sophia's transparent creation stood out as particularly daring among the assembled celebrities.
Matcha Drink Collaboration Faces Online Criticism
The attention-grabbing appearance comes shortly after Sophia's new matcha drink collaboration faced significant backlash online, mere hours after the product launched on shelves. The iced beverage represents a partnership between the social media star, who boasts 1.4 million followers, and wellness brand Tropeaka.
Negative Taste Test Reactions
TikToker Danib1023 shared a video on Thursday featuring herself and friends sampling the flavoured beverage, with one taste tester complaining 'That's so terrible,' while another labelled it 'so bad.' A third participant described the drink as 'feral,' despite its marketing as 'Japanese Matcha in a smooth and creamy oak milk latte.' One reviewer even remarked that it reminded her of 'Play-Doh.'
The critical video, captioned 'Not good at all,' has since been viewed by over 704,500 users. Digital marketing brand ElitentitledAU also posted their verdict on TikTok, with director Jess Lima and social media manager Amelia Duff conducting their own taste test. Jess commented 'I feel like I'm tasting water after something accidentally fell into it,' while later admitting 'I can't even rate it' after trying the strawberry-flavoured variant.
Mixed Consumer Responses
The review attracted numerous comments from followers who criticized the product's authenticity, with one complaining 'I love Soph, but honestly, these should be called oat milk drinks, not matcha in the slightest.' Another agreed, stating 'It doesn’t even taste like matcha.'
However, some fans defended Sophia's creation, with one Instagram user writing 'The best matcha ever,' while another added 'Chef kiss so good.' A third supporter commented 'I wasn’t sure about the white chocolate but I’m actually now a convert!'
The controversial beverage launched on Thursday and is advertised as available in 7-Eleven stores across Australia. Matcha, which originates from Japan, is a finely ground green tea powder from the Camellia sinensis plant that has gained global popularity through wellness trends.
