Former Skins actress Megan Prescott, best known for playing Katie Fitch, has spoken about her transition to sex work, saying she feels better treated now than during her time on the show. The 34-year-old joined OnlyFans in 2020 to fund her creative projects in TV, film and theatre.
Prescott told Cosmopolitan that the hypocrisy of the entertainment industry struck her: as a teenager on Skins, she performed sex scenes while others profited, yet as an adult sex worker, she earns more and controls her own image. She said: 'If we are collectively okay with that... then why can’t I, as a grown woman, take ownership of my image and sexuality back and earn three times as much?'
After Skins, Prescott struggled to find acting work and worked part-time jobs, including at Wetherspoons, where customers questioned her presence. She revealed that the show paid minimum wage when calculated hourly, and actors receive no residuals from streaming platforms.
At 23, a friend introduced her to stripping. Initially reluctant, she found the environment more straightforward than acting, with clear expectations and security. She said: 'In acting, it’s not like that. It’s very vague.'
Prescott now campaigns for sex workers' rights and writes and stars in her own theatre show, Really Good Exposure. She emphasised that sex work gives her financial and creative freedom, allowing her to pursue acting, writing and directing.
