Billionaire businessman and philanthropist Sir Ian Wood has died at the age of 84. The founder of the Aberdeen-based Wood Group passed away peacefully at his home, his family confirmed.

In a statement, his family said: "The Wood family is deeply saddened to announce the death of Sir Ian Wood (84), who passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family."
