ITV's Britain's Got Talent has suspended filming following the death of former One Direction star Liam Payne. The 31-year-old, who rose to fame on The X Factor, died after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday, October 16.
The show's judges — Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and guest judge KSI — had gathered in Blackpool Winter Gardens to begin filming the new series. However, production was halted as a mark of respect. Ticket provider Applause Store announced on X: 'Due to the tragic passing of Liam Payne, BGT has decided to postpone today's auditions in Blackpool. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.'
Local police confirmed that Payne fell into the courtyard of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel. The singer was reportedly in Buenos Aires to attend a concert by former bandmate Niall Horan. Alberto Crescenti, head of the state emergency medical system, said Payne died from injuries sustained in the fall.
