Dan Bernad, the estranged husband of Australian singer Sia, is seeking more than £187,000 (US$250,000) per month in spousal support, according to US court documents. The former radiation oncologist also requests £224,000 for legal fees and £150,000 for forensic accounting costs.
Bernad and Sia, full name Sia Furler, separated in May after three years of marriage. They have an 18-month-old son, Somersault. In legal filings in Los Angeles, Bernad claims he has no income since he left his regular job in 2021 to help open a ketamine treatment clinic with Sia. The couple founded Modern Medicine in 2022, but Sia stopped funding the venture in March, leaving Bernad without a salary despite an alleged agreement to continue until July.
Bernad argues the support is necessary to maintain the “luxurious and upper-class lifestyle” he enjoyed during the marriage, which included monthly expenses exceeding £300,000 for private jets, vacations, high-end dining, and full-time staff. He wrote: “We never needed to monitor our living expenses. I request that the court order Sia to pay me temporary spousal support in the sum of $250,856 per month.”
He further stated that he would need “several years of training and pass several rigorous exams” to renew his certification as a radiation oncologist. Bernad also claimed the legal and accounting fees would “level the playing field” with his wealthier estranged wife. Around the time Sia filed for divorce, Bernad said she paid for his hotel stay until the end of July before he moved into a leased home, for which he paid over £75,000 for a year but Sia refused to reimburse him.
