Shopper's Surprise Discovery in Charity Shop
A shopper was left astonished when she found a glass bowl in a charity shop priced at £50, initially considering it too expensive until she examined the base. Vivian Ly from California was browsing at a Marshalls store in the US when she spotted the bowl with a $64 (£48) price tag. She described the bowl as "simple" and felt "outraged" at the cost, especially since it had been reduced from $75.99 (£57.49) after remaining unsold.
"I noticed this simple glass bowl that was priced outrageously for such a basic item. I was very confused and thought it was a mistake until I picked it up," Ly said.
Three Words That Changed Everything
When Ly lifted the bowl and turned it over, she discovered three words etched on the bottom rim: "Tiffany and Co." This revelation made the price tag make sense. "I realised it was something special when I examined it and saw 'Tiffany and Co.' engraved on the bottom rim. I'm not into many designer items, but that doesn't mean I don't know of them," she added.
Ly believes the bowl is likely made from lead glass, commonly known as crystal, and estimated its new retail value at nearly $300 (£227), making the $64 (£48) price a significant bargain. She was also surprised to find the item at Marshalls, as she was unaware that Tiffany produced glass bowls or homeware products.
Online Reactions and Final Decision
According to the Tiffany and Co. website, the brand offers a wide range of homeware, including glassware, tableware, flatware, trays, and home décor such as cushions and blankets. After Ly posted her discovery on TikTok, many commenters said they would not buy the bowl themselves, calling it "just a glass bowl." One person commented, "It's still a glass bowl," while another said, "Still wouldn't spend more than $5 (£3.78) on it."
Ly agreed with the commenters and decided not to purchase the bowl. She noted that while the Tiffany engraving "boosts the value" due to the brand name, it was "still a regular glass bowl" and not something she needed.
