Shia LaBeouf was arrested early on Tuesday on two counts of simple battery after an alleged altercation at a bar in New Orleans during Mardi Gras festivities. Police responded to a disturbance at Royal Street Inn and Bar in the Faubourg Marigny district at around 12.45am.
Court documents state that the bar manager attempted to escort the actor out of the premises, during which LaBeouf allegedly tried to strike him. After being removed, he reportedly punched a male patron who was assisting the manager, then returned to punch a second man in the nose. Bystanders held him down until police arrived.
LaBeouf was taken to hospital, later discharged, and then arrested. He was released on his own recognisance later on Tuesday, just as New Orleans' carnival reached its peak. Shortly afterwards, he was seen on Bourbon Street dancing with his release papers in his mouth, according to local media.
His next court hearing in the battery case is tentatively scheduled for 19 March. Staff at the bar have said LaBeouf is not welcome back. A video posted online shows the actor shirtless and exchanging words with another person before being attended to by paramedics.
Reports of unruly behaviour over the preceding days have surfaced, including an incident at Ms Mae's bar where LaBeouf was asked to leave after allegedly trying to serve drinks to customers. The doorman told the Hollywood Reporter that the actor had used the phrase 'Do you know who I am?'
LaBeouf has previously spoken about struggles with sobriety and attended court-mandated rehab after a 2017 arrest. In 2020, singer FKA twigs sued him for sexual battery and assault, with the pair reaching a settlement in July 2025. LaBeouf has denied the allegations. His representatives have not commented.
