Sharon Stone has revealed that quitting marijuana and other medications left her severely ill for months. The Basic Instinct star, 68, suffered a near-fatal stroke in 2001 and spent nearly seven years recovering. She said stopping the drugs was the hardest part, even with doctors advising against it.
Withdrawal from Stroke Medication Like Heroin
Stone told Variety that she decided to stop one of her stroke medications last September despite her doctors' warnings. 'They said, 'You can't go off of it. You can never go off of it.' I'm like, I'm going off it, and it was like going off of f****ing heroin,' she said. She experienced severe sickness for four and a half months, describing it as 'sick as a frigging dog.'
Quitting Marijuana Also Made Her Ill
Stone also gave up smoking marijuana, which she said is now much stronger and laced with chemicals. 'It's not like you're pulling it out of the ground anymore. It's not like when we were kids. I got pretty sick for a month,' she recalled. Her neurologist confirmed that recreational marijuana has become more dangerous, telling her, 'I've had people dying in the emergency room from marijuana.'
Reclaiming Her Life
Stone, who recently appeared on the third season of Euphoria, said she feels like she is 'really reclaiming my life' after overcoming health issues. She had already stopped most of her prescribed medications over the years, but wanted a completely drug-free life. 'I just thought, 'I want my life back,'' she added.
